The great doctor
This time, I'll tell you many special stories about Jesus. He healed sick people as he went by many villages with his disciples.
At that time there was no good medicine or doctors. So the sick died in pain. So Jesus took pity on them and cured them. Many people welcomed him. There was no sick person after Jesus passed by. He touched every person, and cured him?especially, the children.
Shortly after Jesus began His work, there was a boy who was ill in Capernaum. His father was an official who was in a high position in the palace. He was rich and kind man, and the boy was his only son. The official asked famous doctors to cure his son. But all the doctors said;
“Your son can't be healed.”
How sad he must have been after he heard. He preferred to die because he loved his son so much. One day someone told the official who was buried in grief.
“There is one whom they call Jesus. Many people told me He could cure any sickness. If you show your son to Him, he will be cured.”
As soon as he heard it, he visited Jesus. The official went to Jesus through many people. Since he had a high position, many people got out of the way. He went to Jesus and kneeled in front of him. And he said,
“Lord, please come with me or my son shall die.”
He entreated eagerly. As soon as the official saw Jesus, he felt at ease in his mind. And he was convinced that he could rescue his son. Jesus felt worry and agony, and his heart was full of compassion for him.
Your son revived.
"Go, your son will live!"(John 4:50).
The official returned to his house. He forgot every worry thanks to Jesus. He believed confidently that his son would be fully healed. He walked slowly without haste.
He had lived a life filled with worry and uncertainty, but since he met Jesus, his heart was filled with joy. When he reached near home, a servant came to meet him. He shouted with joy.
“Your boy is going to live!”
The official asked the servant what time it was when his son got better, and he answered,
“It was one o'clock yesterday afternoon when the fever left him.”
Then the father remembered that it was at that very time when Jesus had told him,
“Your son will live.”
So he and all his family believed in God. This news spread all over the land, and Jesus' name became more and more famous(John 4:46-53).
The dead girl revived
One day, when Jesus stayed by the Sea of Galilee, Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, visited Him. Jairus’ face showed something unusual. It was certain that something bad had happened to him. He threw himself down at Jesus' feet and begged him to go to his house, because his only daughter, who was 12 years old, was dying.
"My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live"(Mark 5:23).
Jesus saw Jairus' sorrow, and he rose up and went with him. On their way to Jairus' house, a woman who had suffered from a hemorrhage for twelve years touched the fringe of Jesus' garment. And she was healed at once. While they were there, a servant of Jairus came in a hurry and said,
"Your daughter is dead. don't bother the teacher any more"(Luke 8:49).
Jairus was really sad and almost lost his mind. Now, there is no use of His coming, since his daughter already died. There was no hope. Then Jairus looked up Jesus with despair. Jesus said to Jairus,
"Don't be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed"(Luke 8:50).
Now, Jairus could have hope in Him, again.
When he arrived at the house, everyone there was crying and mourning for the child.
"Stop wailing, she is not dead but asleep"(Luke 8:52).
They all made fun of him, because they knew that she was dead. Jesus entered the room with His disciples. She was lying in her bed. He took her by her hand and called out,
"Talitha, Koum" It means "Little girl, I say to you, arise"(Mark 5:39-41).
Do you know what happened?
She got up at once and started walking around. Her father, Jairus, and her mother were surprised and speechless. They embraced each other and burst into tears. The disciples witnessed Jesus' power that cured a sick person and revived a dead one. They could believe Him with more confidence that Jesus was indeed the Son of God. In Him, there is life.
Jesus loves children.
Now, you can see how much Jesus loves children, can't you?
I want to love Jesus with my whole heart!
As Jesus became more famous, more mothers brought their children to Jesus for a blessing. In Judea, it was a custom. A teacher put his hand on a head of a child and prayed for him. But the disciples scolded the people, because they thought the children were a nuisance. The mothers were very disappointed. When Jesus noticed this, he got angry and said to his disciples,
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it"(Mark 10:14,15).
Jesus really loved children. Heaven is a place where a person who is pure and lovely like a child can live. Jesus took the children in his arms, placed his hands on each of them, and blessed them. Their mothers were very glad when they saw this(Matthew 18:3).
The greatest one in heaven
One day, disciples were discussing ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ Each of them seemed to think; “I am the greatest.” At last they asked the Lord, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Jesus was very sad because disciples still wanted to be first. Jesus didn't say anything and called child and put him in the midst of them, and said.
"I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven, therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven"(Matthew 18:1-4).
Jesus told us about feeling overly important. He said such a man couldn’t enter in the kingdom of heaven. We must not forget it.
When Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey one week before He died on the cross, who welcomed Jesus waving branches of palm trees? Yes, they were the very children.
"Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!"(John 12:13).
Because the children cried too loudly, teachers and learned men of Jerusalem church were furious. Since they didn't believe Jesus was the Messiah, they didn't like children's shouting, “Hosanna, Hosanna!” At last they couldn't endure any more, so they said to Jesus.
"Do you hear what these are saying?"(Matthew 21:16).
Then what did Jesus answer to them?(Matthew 21:9-16)
"Have you never read, from the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise?"(Matthew 21:16).
Even they were young children, they praised Jesus very enthusiastically. Jesus wants children to praise Him like this. And He is always waiting for being a friend to us. How great it is that we have such a good friend! From now we can be Jesus’ friends too.
Prayer to Jesus
Even though we are still young, thanks for your love and helping us believe and praise you. We want to be your true workers, and to diligently study your word.
Please help us, Lord. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen!
